Studying Tips

Studying Tips

With school coming to an end soon, summer seems to be students main focus.  But before summer, all students must do what no student ever looks forward to do: Finals.  Most students wait until the weekend before finals to study and then are disappointed with their results.  20% of people today procrastinate their work to the last minute and then end up failing the assignment.  Studying for exams/tests has been a problem for everyone at one point especially young high schoolers.  Students common excuse is “I didn’t know how to study,’ or “I didn’t know what to study,”  I am here to share with you 5 easy tips to help students improve their study skills.

First Tip: This may sound crazy but a great way to make it easier for tests is to study the material everyday, even if you don’t have a test in that class coming up.  If you understand it earlier in the chapter it makes it so much easier when the test comes around.  You don’t even have to study for that long!  If you just look at it for 10-15 minutes a day the test will be a lot easier and studying for the whole chapter won’t be so bad.

Second Tip:  Staying organized can definitely help your studying go a lot faster and easier.  Putting worksheets and notes in sections can help you get to them a lot quicker and get to studying.  Taking organized notes can help you as well.  Having a planner or calendar is a great way to keep due dates and test dates easy to see.

Third Tip:Take one subject at a time, doing your least favorite subject first.  Then the rest will seem easier after that.  Quiz yourself.  Make a pretest similar to the actual test.  Take it as if it was the actual test.  Then, when you get on the test, the problems won’t seem as bad.

Fourth Tip:  Study with a group.  Now don’t study with your best friends, who you know you are going to get off topic with.  Find someone who you know will study with you and help you.  If you can’t find anyone, set up an appointment with your teacher and try to have him/her help you understand the information and study.  Even your parents/siblings can help you study and test you!

Fifth Tip: Study over and over again.  Don’t just study once.  Repetition is how things stick in with you for the test.  Reread notes, chapters, and assignments.  Talk out aloud and the things will also stick too.

With these five tips, studying for tests won’t end up being the thing you hate doing.  Studying only gets harder so you might as well start these good study habits now!
